Marian teaches swimming for middle schoolers. To balance the budget, the board wants her to put swimmers and non-swimmers together. She believes that would not be safe! She has written to the board asking them to reverse that ruling saying, “Do not let the bottom line override safety.” Sara runs games for preschoolers at the YWCA. She finds the children quite ready to share – even to the point of giving the ball to the other team! Occasionally, Joe finds himself in conflict with a student and both are in an angry frame of mind. He’ll say, “Let’s calm down. When we we’ve cooled off, let’s talk it out.” After a time, if the student has not come to him, he seeks out the student to resolve the conflict.

At the family reunion, the youth are excited by Peter’s chart of the family tree which shows they are related to the Tudors and the Plantagenets! Peter comments: “In my opinion, the theory of evolution by Darwin is not in conflict with anything that has to do with God. They are in unison. Everything comes out from God. The Bible is the story about how man came about and evolution is a scientific way to describe what happened. As they multiplied, human beings began to keep track of themselves by assigning names. By researching genealogy, you are taught a lot about who you are. The kings and queens are just people.

Diverse Group Discovering Their Daily Missions |

Led by eight trainers, thirty-nine clergy and lay leaders are discerning their missions in their daily lives this week, 10/11-16/09. Meeting at La Casa de Maria Retreat and Conference Center in Santa Barbara, CA, ten Hispanics, eleven Asian-Americans, four African-Americans, ten Caucasians, four seminarians, and a Tanzanian are exploring “member mission” for themselves and for their churches. A picture and more will follow next month. Two national staff of the Episcopal Church have been most helpful in helping us to connect with the participants, The Rev. Anthony Guillen, Hispanic Ministries Officer, and The Rev. Dr. Winfred Vergara, Asian-American Officer.
