Luke leads a support group at the National Alliance on Mental Illness for the families of the mentally ill. Bi-weekly meeting of two hours can draw from eight to twenty people. One night as people were leaving, he talked with a couple he knew to be church members. He shared that as he drove to the meeting, he prayed that he would find an appropriate way to bring God into the group that night. For Luke, the power and growth of the ongoing group are due to God’s presence. “I’m 70. I’ve done this for eight years. Only in the last few years do I feel that I have found my mission.” Luke adds, “I have really found the need to depend on God rather than being independent of Him. I can run out of gas real quick depending upon my own resources!
