Based on Matthew 24:36-44
[A way to live at home and with your friends based on Matthew 24:36-44, a reading from The Revised Common Lectionary for the First Sunday of Advent, 11/27/16. Jesus has been teaching about the future day when God comes to bring all creation to judgment and to fulfillment. Here he warns that we never know when that day will be. For example, he tells of the unexpected floods in Noah’s time. So stay awake. In a parable, he tells of a home owner: If he had known when the thief would come, he would have stayed awake and prevented the break in. Therefore, his listeners must be ready every moment because the Son of Man, God’s agent, will come when he is not expected.
