Based on Matthew 17:1-9
A way to live a mission in your community based on Matthew 17:1-9 a reading from the Revised Common Lectionary for the Last Sunday after the Epiphany, 2/26/17. Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain. He is given an exalted appearance before them. Moses and Elijah are talking with him. Peter offers to build something like three tents for them. A bright cloud appears and a voice comes from it saying, “This is my son; I am pleased with him; listen to him.” The three disciples are overcome by fear and fall to the ground. Jesus touches them saying “Get up; do not be afraid.” As they go back down the mountain, Jesus orders them to tell no one about the vision until Jesus, the Son of Men, has been raised from the dead.
A theme: Jesus fulfills the teachings of Moses and Elijah about the law and the prophets; like the law and the prophets, he teaches us to live caringly and fairly everywhere.
