A way to live a mission in spiritual health:
Belief in Jesus is God’s gift; this gift cannot be earned; it can only be received.
John 3:1-17
A way to live a mission in your spiritual health based on John 3:1-17, a reading from the Revised Common Lectionary for the Second Sunday in Lent, 3/12/17. Nicodemus leads Jews who see Jesus as sent from God because of what he has done. Jesus says that Nicodemus cannot understand him unless he, Nicodemus, is reborn—that is born from above by God’s gift of baptism and the Spirit. Nicodemus still does not understand. Jesus says that Nicodemus has not really believed what Jesus has taught. Jesus is the greatest teacher because he alone has come down from God—others only went up to God. When Jesus is lifted up, that is crucified; those who believed him will have eternal life. Jesus has not come to condemn others but to save them.
A theme: Belief in Jesus is God’s gift—a gift from above; and belief in Jesus’ death is central to that belief.
