A way to live a mission in the wider world:
Love drawing on God’s power to make the world a better place; not just to improve your own place in life.
Based on Matthew 4:1-11
A way to live a mission in the wider world based on Matthew 4:1-11 a reading from the Revised Common Lectionary of the First Sunday of Lent, 3/5/17. Jesus is led into the wilderness by the Spirit to be tempted by the devil. He eats nothing for forty days and nights. The devil says, “Turn these stones into bread if you are God’s Son.” Jesus refuses saying, “God’s words really feed us.” Next, Jesus is taken to the top of the temple. The devil says, “Throw yourself down and the angels will catch you if you are God’s Son.” Jesus refuses saying, “Do not put God to the test.” Then the devil takes him to a high mountain to show him all the kingdoms of the world. He promises to give Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if Jesus will worship him. Jesus refuses saying, “Worship and serve God alone.” The devil leaves and angels come to wait on Jesus.
A theme: Jesus refuses to use God’s power for his own purposes.
