A way to live a mission in the wider world:
Work to understand people and nations who are different from us.

A way to live a mission in the wider world based on John 7:37-39, a reading from the Revised Common Lectionary for Pentecost, 6/4/17. Understanding Jewish culture and religious practice helps us unpack what Jesus means. The carrying of water [water is a symbol for the Spirit] which is needed for libations, leads Jesus to invite those thirsty for the Spirit to come to him to drink of the Spirit. The invitation looks ahead to the gift of the Holy Spirit, which came on Pentecost to the disciples and the crowds, giving everyone the ability to understand each other’s language.
A theme: Jesus helps all who “thirst” for the Spirit.
