A way to live in the mission field of your spiritual health:
Follow Jesus’ way of love and justice and you will have food and drink for your spirit.
Based on John 6:24-35 (see a readable retelling below); a reading that comes from the Revised Common Lectionary for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost, 8/5/18.
The crowd goes looking for Jesus in Capernaum on the shore of the sea. Finding him, they ask when he came there. Jesus says, “You look for me for more to eat and you miss what the feeding of the crowd meant.” He says they should not look for food to eat. They should look for the food Jesus gives [his words and actions] for which God has given approval.
The people ask, “How do we do the work of God?” Jesus answers that they should have faith in him [live by his teachings and actions]. They ask, “To have faith in you what sign, what miracle will you give us? What is the work you do? As our people wandered in the desert, God gave them manna to eat.”
Jesus answers, “Moses did not feed you. God feeds you with real bread. God’s real bread [Jesus] is from heaven and gives life to the world.” Jesus goes on to say that he is the bread of life. Whoever comes to him will never be hungry and whoever believes in him will never be thirsty.
A theme: Follow Jesus, way of love and justice, and you will never be hungry or thirsty.
