A way to live a mission in your work place based on John 1:6-8, 19-28, a reading from the Revised Common Lectionary for the Third Sunday in Advent, 12/17/17.
[These verses are John’s introduction to his account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. The big words are in verse 6 – “a man sent from God” means God is the primary one on mission, God is the primary activist.] God sent John the Baptist as a witness to prepare people to accept the light [Jesus] when he comes. The leaders from Jerusalem questioned John as to whether or not he was the Messiah [the expected king and deliverer of the Jews]; Elijah; or a prophet. John answered that he was preparing the way of the Lord who was coming. Next the leaders asked why he was baptizing people. John answered that one greater than he, himself was coming. All this happened in Bethany across the Jordan.
A theme: God sends John to prepare the way for the greater one who is coming.
