A way to live your mission as a church member
Expect resistance, even persecution when you try to love or be just; by your endurance, you will be protected in body and Spirit.
Based on Luke 21:5-19
[A way to live your mission as a church-member based on Luke 21:5-19, a reading from The Revised Common Lectionary for the Twenty-sixth Sunday after Pentecost, 11/13/16. Jesus has met strong resistance. He foresees more resistance and more hard times because of the resistance. He draws on specific expectations of hard times from past prophets and teachers. The temple will be leveled; many false leaders using Jesus’ name will come forward; wars between nations; famine and plagues. His followers will be persecuted because of Jesus’ name. He will give them what to say to opponents; finally, members will betray them all because of his name. By their endurance, his followers will “gain [their] souls” and not lose “a hair from [their] head[s].”
A theme: Endure hard times and persecution; you will be protected and survive.]
